Manufacturing Operations at Genzyme Waterford The Manufacturing operations in Waterford are focused on transforming Drug substances produced at a number of Genzyme facilities worldwide into Drug products along with Packaging these products into various forms for our patients needs in individual markets worldwide. Oral Dose Manufacturing The operation consists of two Oral Dosage facilities, the first is in operation since 2002, the second commenced operations in 2009. Both facilities are multi dosage facilities capable of transforming bulk product into either, tablets or powder for sachets. These products are for controlling phosphate levels in dialysis patients. The process involves converting bulk active into solid dosage tablets. The variations in dosage forms are to support the new products Genzyme plans to bring to market over the next two years. Packaging Operations The Packaging facilities currently contain two high speed bottle filling, labeling and cartoning lines to support our tablet packaging requirements. These lines are responsible for the Packaging of the global requirements for Genzyme phosphate binder products Renagel and Renvela. The facility also contains a high speed vial labeling and cartoning line which is dedicated to the products processed in the Fill Finish facility. The Packaging department has recently been expanded to incorporate a new highly automated line for future Genzyme products. This line will be focused on packaging of sachet dosage forms. Manufacturing team members focus on the processing and packaging of our products in line with c GMP requirements. These operations are undertaken in state of the art facilities with high focus on ensuring the quality of the products for our patients are maintained. The Manufacturing Maintenance team’s key responsibilities include the support of the Manufacturing teams in the various areas by undertaking equipment preventative and predictive maintenance, trouble shooting as well as continuous improvements projects. The Process Engineering teams support each area by ongoing monitoring, trouble shooting and improvement of our production and packaging process. Furthermore the teams work closely with our Development and Project Engineering teams in the introduction of new products and or equipment to the site. |
