Claire, Quality What originally brought you to Genzyme? Genzyme was a new company in Waterford, and I knew a couple of people working here who said it was a great place to work. So applied for a job as a ‘Packing Team Member’ and was successful! How long have you been working with Genzyme? I joined the company back in September 2002, so almost 8 years. Please state what role you currently hold and any other roles you have had since joining? I first began my career with Genzyme as a team member on the packing floor, a year later; I applied for a role in Quality Assurance and was given the opportunity to take on the position as QA Specialist. I was in this role for 3 years before being appointed to the QA Team Leader position. I am currently the lead on a 3 year global project. What keeps you motivated and inspired? Every day you are striving towards improvements. It is an environment of continuous improvement and change. When such improvements are embedded and become the norm, you identify the next and the process starts all over again! How much emphasis does Genzyme place on Training and Development- are there opportunities to develop? If you want to develop in Genzyme, the opportunities are certainly there and the encouragement and backing of the site is also there. There is plenty of opportunity to develop both on the job and through additional education as I have done; I am now in my final year of a Manufacturing Management degree. How is campus life in Genzyme different to anywhere else you have worked? Genzyme is all about the people. In other campus I’ve been to, you have friends and colleagues, however, in Genzyme, the friendships span across the site (it’s more like a close knit family) and not just those you work closely with. What benefits that working in Genzyme provide you with, do you value the most? The benefits I appreciate and value the most from working in Genzyme are the flexi time facilities. This flexi time arrangement means that I can pop out and bring my little girl to the doctor if she is sick and I just work back the time missed during that same week. Can you identify the top five reasons why you enjoy working with Genzyme? They would have to be- the people, career progression & opportunities, sports & social events, patient focus & freedom to achieve. Have you done any travelling for your job while working with Genzyme and how has this helped you with your role? I have travelled to France, Switzerland, Germany and the states during my time in Genzyme. I have conducted audits and taken part in various cross functional meetings and lean activities. I have increased my knowledge and skills in the auditing department which helps with my role in Genzyme and I’ve also increased understanding of the lean concept which helps me in all aspects of life, not just in my work life. How does your manager/team mates inspire you? I am constantly inspired by the people I work with by their sheer determination to ensure that we meet the needs of our patients. How have you been challenged in your role? My challenge has always been (no matter which role I’ve been in) living up to the expectations of others and proving that their belief in me has been worthwhile. What do you like most about your role? Working with different people and building relationships with colleagues within the Waterford site and other Genzyme sites. What have you discovered about Genzyme that has surprised you? Genzyme’s commitment to Patient Focus How has Genzyme helped you achieve a work/life balance? As mentioned previously, through the use of flexi time. Also the company ensures that there are adequate resources to support the processes within the plant and where additional resources are required, personnel are hired. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
